The quality of coaching is the lifeblood of floorball. To develop increasingly better players and offer high-quality activities for enthusiasts, coaches must have the best possible tools at their disposal. The result of the collaboration between Qridi Sport and Skills & Boost Floorball is a floorball drill library designed by professional coaches, now directly available in Qridi Sport.

Behind the drill library are floorball professionals Joona Tankka and Marko Partio. Both have over 15 years of experience in coaching and working as club coaching directors.

"We wanted to bring our expertise into how a high-quality practice session is built. We want to ease the everyday life of parent-coaches, for example, making it easier for them to approach practice planning. At the same time, we wanted to create a comprehensive tool that serves more experienced coaches and club employees just as well," Joona Tankka explains.

Higher Quality Floorball Coaching – One Drill at a Time
‍

The drill library is not just a collection of random shots, but a goal-oriented entity designed to meet the real demands of the game. The versatile floorball drills cover all key areas:

  • Developing fundamental skills (such as passing and receiving)
  • Developing game skills and game sense
  • Developing offensive play
  • Various game-like drills

"When looking at the drills, there are a lot of floorball fundamentals included. Even though the sport is evolving, passing and receiving skills still play a massive role, and we have paid close attention to them. Additionally, we have emphasized decision-making and game-like situations. There are many open drills specifically designed to develop a player's game sense," Tankka says about the focus areas.

Marko Partio points out that the drill library is also designed to meet the practical, everyday challenges coaches face – including unexpected situations:"What does a coach do when suddenly there are only six field players present and no goalkeepers? We have ready-made, small-group drills in the library that can be executed without a goalie. A coach can directly look up a suitable drill for the situation, and no time is wasted on improvising."

Learning at the Core: Text, Illustrations, and Video
‍

When it comes to adopting the drills, learning is placed front and center. Because people – both players and coaches – learn in different ways, the drill library utilizes a multi-channel approach.

"We have thought about learning very carefully, perhaps even a bit subconsciously. Since people perceive things differently, every drill is drawn, a video has been made of it, and everything is additionally explained with text. The text thoroughly details the goals of the drill and the core coaching aspects to focus on," Partio summarizes.

Thanks to this, no one has to guess the purpose of a drill. The whole package is made so clear that a coach can quickly absorb the practice and successfully put it into action.

Just the Beginning – 126 Drills is Only the Start
‍

Qridi Sport's drill library currently features 126 carefully selected and produced drills that broadly serve different age groups, from the youngest juniors to older players. However, this is just the beginning.

In the future, the goal is to continuously develop and expand the drill library based on feedback and needs from the field. Tankka and Partio hint that going forward, they might utilize the expertise of goalie coach Juha Meuranen, who is part of their team, to bring goalie-specific drills to the platform.

This is an ever-evolving floorball drill library, created for one reason: for the best of the sport and the continuous development of its players.
